Due to his astounding breadth of knowledge of the area and streams, Nes is able to identify with the environment and determine the fly patterns that his quarry demands. Whether floating or wading down the Watauga or South Holston Rivers, or fishing the “trophy” sections for trout, or guiding the many rivers for smallmouth he knows where the fish “hang-out” and what it takes to draw them. He is a true fishing expert.
Various articles have been written about him in regional newspapers. In 2003, Bass Master Magazine correspondent Bruce Ingram wrote an in depth article on “Fishing Tennessee’s River of Death.” This article feature Nes’ knowledge of fishing on the Nolichucky River in Tennessee. |

However, Nes’ talents do not end as a fishing guide. He is a master craftsman and is able to fish from the boats he builds, catch fish with the flies he ties, and land the fish with the nets he designed. He builds his custom wooden drift boats, wooden nets, and ties special flies for the targeted area and type fishing. All of these works of art are made in his own workshop located just behind his home in historic Jonesborough, TN, in the custom workshop he built.
